There is no FM27 beta this year. The Launch Preview replaces it: free from 29 October to 3 November, with saves that carry into release.
FM27 beta, demo and free play
There is no FM27 beta. No closed beta, no key lottery, no pre-order-only alpha. Sports Interactive replaced all of that with a single event called the Launch Preview, and for five days it is free to anyone with a store account.
The dates: 29 October 2026, 18:00 GMT to 3 November 2026, 18:00 GMT. After that the free window closes, and the same build stays open until release for players who pre-purchase from a participating retailer.
The three windows
| Window | Dates | Access |
|---|---|---|
| Free Launch Preview | 29 Oct 18:00 GMT – 3 Nov 18:00 GMT | Free on Steam, Epic, Microsoft Store, Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass |
| Paid Launch Preview | 3 Nov – 10 Nov | Pre-purchase from a participating digital retailer |
| Full game | From 10 Nov | Purchase |
The build is the same in all three. The free window is not a demo slice with modes removed: every mode is open, there is no play-time cap and no progress cap, and the save you start carries into the retail game.

How to get in
- Open the store where you plan to play.
- Find Football Manager 27.
- During the window, the store page shows a play or install button instead of a buy button. There is no code to enter.
On Steam the library entry appears automatically. On Epic and the Microsoft Store the same applies, though the Microsoft Store sometimes needs a refresh before the button appears. Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members get the same access without buying anything.
The download is 20GB. If you start it on 2 November you will spend most of the free window watching a progress bar. Start it on 29 October.
Is it a demo
No, and the distinction matters. A demo is a cut-down build with a time limit or a restricted mode list. The Launch Preview is the near-final retail build, released early so that the studio can catch crashes and balance problems before launch. It includes career mode, the editor, multiplayer and the new tactical systems.
That also means it is not a marketing sample. Bugs you find are launch bugs, and the first patch will address the ones that get reported.
What carries over
Saves from the free window carry into the retail game on the same platform and store account. That is the main reason to start a proper save rather than a throwaway test.
Saves from FM24 and FM26 can also be imported, provided they exist locally or in cloud storage. The import converts the save into the FM27 database, which means ratings and competition structures update but your squad's history stays.
What does not carry over: anything you do in a multiplayer session hosted by someone else, unless the host keeps the save. And nothing carries between stores.
What to test in five days
Five days is enough to answer the questions that decide whether the game is for you.
Does the new tactical layer make sense? Build one tactic, watch the effectiveness gauge, then add instructions until it drops. The Tactical Effectiveness guide explains what the four pillars mean.
Does the match engine feel different? Watch a full match in 2D and one in 3D. The Hawk-Eye data changes how runs and dribbles look, and the defensive line behaves differently from FM26.
Is your machine fast enough? Load the leagues you would actually load, not one. Processing speed between matches is the real performance test, and the system requirements page explains which component limits you.
Does the squad builder work for you? The best tactics page has three systems you can set up in twenty minutes and use as a control.
If you only do one of these, do the third. Hardware problems are the only ones you cannot patch.
What is new in the preview build
The preview includes the full feature set:
- Tactical Effectiveness, with gauges on the tactics, training and recruitment screens.
- Tactical Tweaks during matches, alongside a reworked shout system.
- The rebuilt training module with match preparation and opponent-specific work.
- Shuffle Draft, the new online draft mode built with FIFAe.
- The reworked 2D match engine and a full-screen in-game editor.
- The 2026/27 database, including the new Chilean and Peruvian competitions.
That is not a beta feature list. It is the launch feature list.
Common questions
Do I need to pre-order to play the free window? No.
Is there a demo after release? No. The free window is the only trial, and it closes before launch.
Can I keep playing after 3 November without buying? No. The paid preview requires a pre-purchase.
Will my save work if I buy on a different store? No. Stay on the same store and platform.
Is the console version in the preview? No. Console players can wishlist from 29 October, and the console release follows a separate schedule.
Does the preview include the in-game editor? The pre-game editor is included. The in-game editor is a separate purchase, and it is not needed to test the game.
If you miss the window
You have two options: pre-purchase before 10 November and join the paid preview, or wait for release. The paid preview costs the same as the game, so it is only worth it if you were buying anyway.
Waiting is not a bad choice. The first patch usually lands within two weeks, and the release date page explains how the global unlock works. By then the community will have found the launch bugs, and the wonderkid lists will have been checked against the retail database rather than the preview build.
What the preview is not
It is not a chance to play the game free for five days and then refund it. On Steam, preview play counts as play time, so the two-hour refund window is gone the moment you load a save.
It is also not a beta in the old sense. There is no feedback form that changes the build before launch, no NDA, and no exclusive access tier. If you were waiting for a beta key, stop waiting and install the free build on 29 October.
