What has changed in Football Manager 27 so far, how updates reach Steam, Epic and Game Pass players, and what to expect from the first post-launch patch.
FM27 Updates: Patch Notes and Hotfix Tracker
As of 1 November 2026, Football Manager 27 has no post-launch patch notes, because the retail game has not launched. What exists is the Launch Preview build, open since 29 October, and the paid preview that starts on 3 November. This page tracks what is confirmed about updates, how each store delivers them, and what to do when a patch breaks your save.
Anyone searching for "FM27 patch notes" in early November is usually looking for one of two things: fixes to a preview build problem, or the day-one patch that always lands around release. Only the first can exist right now.

Before you report a bug, note the version string in the game and the store you installed from. The same calendar date can carry different builds on Steam, Epic and the Microsoft Store.
What is confirmed so far
| Date | Event | Build status |
|---|---|---|
| 29 Oct 2026, 18:00 GMT | Free Launch Preview opens on Steam, Epic, Microsoft Store, Game Pass | Preview build |
| 3 Nov 2026, 18:00 GMT | Free window closes, paid preview begins | Same build family |
| 10 Nov 2026 | Retail release | Retail build |
| After 10 Nov | First post-launch patch | Not dated by the studio |
The preview and the retail game are the same build in the sense that matters: saves carry forward, modes are open, and the editor is present. That does not mean the retail build is byte-identical. Studios routinely ship a launch build that differs from the preview in stability fixes and data corrections, and Sports Interactive has not published a change list for that gap.
If you want studio-sourced changes rather than community summaries, the official news feed is the only place they appear: Football Manager news and the Steam news hub for app 4530370.

How updates reach you
Each store handles patching differently, and the difference causes most of the "my game did not update" reports in the first week.
| Store | Delivery | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Steam | Automatic, queued while the client runs | Downloads page shows the pending build |
| Epic Games Store | Automatic when the launcher is open | Library entry shows an update badge |
| Microsoft Store / Xbox app | Automatic through the Store service | Microsoft Store library, then Get updates |
| Mac (Steam or Epic) | Same as the PC client | Identical build numbers |
Steam is the most predictable. If an update exists and your client has been online, you have it. The Microsoft Store is the least predictable: the Xbox app can sit on an old build for hours while the Store service decides to work, and forcing an update means opening the Store app itself rather than the game.
On a metered connection, turn off automatic updates before the first patch week. A 20GB base install plus a multi-gigabyte patch is a bad surprise on a phone tether.
What a Sports Interactive patch usually contains
The studio has a long-running pattern, and the pattern is more useful than any single changelog:
- Match engine corrections. Positioning, pressing triggers and set-piece behaviour are the most common early fixes.
- Data corrections. Transfers that completed after the database lock, wrong squad numbers, missing staff.
- Stability fixes. Crash reports from the preview window, usually concentrated in the editor and in long saves.
- UI and quality-of-life. Sorting, filters, and the small things that only show up when thousands of people play the same screen.
What a patch almost never contains is a redesign. If the new tactical layer does not click for you in the preview, do not buy expecting a patch to change it.
Do patches break saves?
They should not. Football Manager has historically kept career saves compatible across minor patches within the same release, and the preview build's saves are advertised as carrying into retail. The risk is not the save file itself but the data around it: a patch that changes competition rules, squad registration or the transfer market can leave an old save in a state the new rules did not anticipate.
The practical defence costs nothing:
- Keep one rolling backup of your career, saved under a different name, every few in-game months.
- After any patch, load the backup first, not the live save, and check the squad screen for anomalies.
- If something looks wrong, save under a new name before continuing so you keep the pre-patch state.
The save import page covers the more drastic case, moving an FM26 career into FM27.
Reporting a bug that a patch should fix
Community reports drive a meaningful share of early fixes, but only when they are specific. A useful report contains the build number, the store, the save file, the exact screen, and a reproduction sequence. "The transfer market is broken" cannot be fixed; "offers arrive for a player who is transfer-listed but injured, in season two, on build X" can.
The official channels are the studio forum and the support pages linked from the store listing. Post there rather than in a comment thread, because the forum is what the developers read.
What to expect after 10 November
The first patch historically lands within roughly two weeks of release. Nobody at Sports Interactive has committed to a date for FM27, and any post claiming a specific day is guessing.
Watching for it is easy: the Steam news hub publishes every build, and the client downloads it in the background. If you play through Game Pass, check the Microsoft Store for updates manually on the Friday after launch, because that is where the lag shows up.
FAQ
Has FM27 been patched since the preview opened? No post-launch patch exists as of 1 November 2026, because the game has not launched. Any preview-window hotfixes are distributed through the stores rather than announced as a numbered patch.
When is the FM27 day-one patch? Not dated. It ships with or just before the 10 November release, and the contents will be published on the official news feed.
Do I need to reinstall to get the retail build? No. The store updates the installed copy. Reinstalling only helps if the update is stuck, which is mostly a Microsoft Store problem.
Will my preview save work after the first patch? It should. Saves are designed to carry forward within the release, and the preview save is the same format as retail. Keep a backup anyway.
Can I roll back to an older build? On Steam, only if the developer publishes a beta branch. Sports Interactive has not announced one for FM27, so treat rollback as unavailable.
Where are the official patch notes? On the Football Manager news feed and the Steam news hub. Community wikis and aggregator sites repost them, sometimes with errors, so check the source.
